এটি একটি আফ্রিকান মেহগনি (লম্বু জাতীয়) গাছের চারা। মানুষ জনের কাছে এই গাছটি লম্বু গাছ নামেই বেশী পরিচিত। কারণ এই গাছ আকারে এবং উচ্চতায় অনেক বেশী লম্বা হয়। এই গাছের কাঠ অত্যন্ত সুন্দর এবং দামী হয়। সুন্দর এবং দামী কাঠের জন্য এই গাছ সবার কাছে সমাদৃত। এই লম্বু জাতীয় মেহগনি একটি কাঠ বৃক্ষ জাতীয় উদ্ভিদ বিশেষ। গাছ লাগিয়ে দ্রুততম সময়ে আর্থিকভাবে লাভবান হতে চাইলে মেহগনি গাছের চারা লাগানো হতে পারে একটি দারুন উদ্যোগ। মেহগনি বাংলাদেশের নিজস্ব গাছ না হলেও আর্থিক লাভের কারণে বর্তমানে ব্যাপকভাবে এ গাছের চারা রোপন করা হয়ে থাকে। ফলে বাংলাদেশের আনাচে-কানাচে এ গাছের আধিক্য লক্ষ্য করা যায়। পোকামাকড় দমন করতে মেহগনি গাছের বীজ থেকে তৈরি তেল বিশেষ উপযোগী। এই গাছের অন্যান্য নাম যেমনঃ মেহগনি, মেহগিনি, মেহগেনি, মেহাগিনী ইত্যাদি নামেও ডাকা হয়। একটি মেহগনি গাছ প্রায় ৫০ ফুট পর্যন্ত লম্বা হয়ে থাকে। এই গাছের পাতা দেখতে বেশ বড় বড়।

মেহগনি গাছ :

এখন বাংলাদেশের প্রায় সব জায়গায় জন্মাতে দেখা যায়। তবে এদের আাদি নিবাস উত্তর আমেরিকার ক্রান্তিয় অঞ্চল। বিশেষ করে পশ্চিম ভারতীয় দ্বীপপুঞ্জকেই এদের আদি নিবাস হিসাবে চিহ্নিত করা হয়ে থাকে। ইউরোপীয় বণিকদের মাধ্যমে ভারতবর্ষ সহ পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন অঞ্চলে এই গাছটি ছড়িয়ে পড়েছে। মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ফ্লোরিডার দক্ষিণে এই গাছগুলো প্রাকৃতিকভাবে জন্মে থাকে। পৃথিবীর বিভিন্ন দেশে এই গাছের চাষ করা হয় । প্রজাতিভেদে বড় বা ছোট মেহেগনি নামে অভিহিত হয়ে থাকে। বাংলাদেশে বসন্তকালে মেহগনি গাছের পাতা ঝরে যায়। এর কিছুদিন পর নতুন পাতা গজায়। এই গাছটি মূলত দামী কাঠের জন্য জনসাধারণের কাছে বেশী সমাদৃত এবং পরিচিত। এই গাছের কাঠ খুব শক্ত এবং ঘন আঁশযুক্ত। মূলত আসবাবপত্র তৈরী করার জন্য এই গাছের কাঠ ব্যবহার করা হয়। এছাড়া ছায়া প্রদানকারী বৃক্ষ হিসাবে পথের পাশে এই গাছ লাগানো হয়।

মেহগনির ঔষধি গুণাগুণ সমূহঃ

ডায়াবেটিস রোগেঃ
ডায়াবেটিক রোগীদের রোগ নিয়ন্ত্রণের জন্য মেহগনি ফলের বিচির ভেতরের সাদা শাঁস পানিতে ভিজিয়ে খেতে দেখা যায়। এতে সুগার নিয়ন্ত্রণে থাকে।

হজমশক্তি বাড়াতেঃ
মেহগনি গাছের বাকলের নির্যাস শক্তিবর্ধক এবং হজমশক্তি বাড়ায়।

ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধেঃ
বিচি, ফল ও মূলের গুঁড়ো খেলে ক্যান্সার প্রতিরোধ হয়।

ভেষজ কীটনাশকঃ
মেহগনি বীজের সাদা অংশ দিয়ে তেল তৈরি হয়। এই তেল ভেষজ কীটনাশক হিসেবে ব্যবহার করা হয়।

পাখির আক্রমণ থেকে ক্ষেত বাঁচাতেঃ
পাখির আক্রমণ থেকে ফসল বাঁচাতে মেহগনি গাছের ডাল কলম করে লাগিয়ে চারার মত করে ক্ষেতের পাশে লাগালে পাখির আক্রমন থেকে বাঁচা যায়। এই গাছে পাখি বাসা বানায় না, এমনকি বসেওনা। আফ্রিকান মেহগনি

This is a type of African Mahogany (tall species) tree sapling. It’s commonly known as tall mahogany because it grows quite tall compared to other trees. The wood of this tree is extremely beautiful and expensive, making it highly sought after by everyone.

Due to its beautiful and valuable wood, this tree is widely recognized. Planting saplings of tall mahogany can be a great initiative for quick economic gains. While not native to Bangladesh, planting tall mahogany saplings is done extensively due to its economic benefits.

As a result, tall mahogany trees are quite visible in various parts of Bangladesh. The oil made from tall mahogany seeds is particularly useful for controlling insect pests. This tree is also known by other names such as mahogany, mehagini, mehageni, and mehagini. A single tall mahogany tree can grow up to about 50 feet tall. The leaves of this tree are quite large in appearance.

Nowadays, tall mahogany trees can be found growing in almost all places in Bangladesh. However, their native habitat is the northern regions of South America. Especially, the Western Indian Archipelago is designated as their original habitat.

Through European merchants, this tree has spread to various regions of the Indian subcontinent and beyond. These trees naturally grow in the southern part of Florida, United States. This tree is cultivated in different countries around the world. Varieties of large or small mahogany trees are commonly referred to as mahogany. In Bangladesh, tall mahogany tree leaves fall during spring.

After a few days, new leaves grow. This tree is mainly known to the general public for its expensive wood and is widely recognized. The wood of this tree is very strong and dense with resin. The wood of tall mahogany is mainly used to make household items. Additionally, it is planted as a shade-providing tree along roadsides.

Medicinal Properties of Tall Mahogany:

 

Diabetes Control: Soaking the white part inside the seed coat of tall mahogany fruit in water and eating it helps control sugar levels.

Improves Digestion: Tall mahogany bark extract enhances digestive power and digestion.

Cancer Prevention: Consuming the pulp and root of tall mahogany fruit helps prevent cancer.

Insect Repellent: The oil made from tall mahogany seeds is used as an insect repellent.

Protects Crops from Bird Attacks: By making columns like the stems of tall mahogany and planting them next to fields like saplings, crops can be protected from bird attacks. This tree does not provide shelter or nesting for birds.
