সুইট লেমন সাইট্রাস জাতীয় একটি নতুন ফল যা বাংলাদেশের বিভিন্ন নার্সারিতে স্বল্প পরিসরে ২-৩ বছর ধরে চাষ করা হচ্ছে। এটি একটি বনসাই জাতীয় গাছ। এর বৈজ্ঞানিক নাম হলো- Citrus limetta. গাছটি লম্বায় প্রায় ২-২.৫ ফুট এবং খানিকটা ঝপালো হয়ে থাকে। বাংলাদেশে বর্তমানে অনেকেই ছাদ বাগান করে থাকে। ছাদ বাগানে লাগানোর জন্য সুইট লেমন খুবই উপযুক্ত একটি গাছ।

 

সুইট লেবুর বৈশিষ্ট্য সমূহঃ 

১। সুইট লেমন গাছে সারা বছর থোকায় থোকায় ফল ধরে থাকে।

 

২। একটি গাছে প্রায় ২০০-২৫০ টি ফল ধরে থাকে।

 

৩। দুই বছর বয়সের একটি গাছ থেকে প্রায় ৫-৬ কেজি ফল পাওয়া যায়।

 

৪। গাছটির ফল ধারণ ক্ষমতা অনেক বেশি।

 

৫। গাছের বয়স বৃদ্ধির সাথে সাথে ফলও বেশি ধরবে। অর্থাৎ গাছে পাতার থেকে ফলই বেশি ধরে।

 

সুইট লেবুর বর্ণনাঃ

এটি দেখতে লেবুর মতোই। তবে এটি মিষ্টি লেবু। কাঁচা অবস্থায় এটি সবুজ বর্ণের হয়ে থাকে এবং পাকলে হলুদ হয়ে যায়। একেবারে মাল্টার কালারের মতো। এই লেবুতে এসিডের পরিমাণ কম থাকে।

 

সুইট লেবুর ব্যবহারঃ 

সুইট লেমনের সবচেয়ে বেশি ভালো লাগে বাকলটা খেতে। তবে ভিতরের অংশটাও খাওয়া হয়। ভিতরের অংশটা হালকা টক, মাল্টা বা কমলার মতো অনেকটা। এছাড়াও অনেক সময় অতিরিক্ত খাবার খেলে Soft Drinks এর alternative হিসেবে কাজ করে এটি।

এটি ত্বকের সৌন্দর্য বৃদ্ধিতে সহায়ক ভূমিকা পালন করে। এই ফল ডায়াবেটিক রোগীদের জন্য উপকারী। নিয়মিত এ ফলের জুস খেলে সঠিকভাবে শরীরে রক্ত সঞ্চালন হয় এবং রোগ প্রতিরোধ ক্ষমতা বৃদ্ধি করে। এই ফল খেলে বমি বমি ভাব দূর হয় এবং হজমে সহায়তা করে। এছাড়াও এটি ওজন কমাতেও কার্যকরী ভূমিকা পালন করে।

 

বাংলাদেশে সুইট লেবুর সম্ভাবনাঃ

আমাদের বাংলাদেশ বর্তমানে বিভিন্ন দেশি-বিদেশি ফলে দিন দিন সমৃদ্ধ হচ্ছে। ইতোপূর্বে সময় থেকে কমলা, বারি মাল্টা-১, চুয়াডাঙ্গা, নওগাঁ, মেহেরপুর, খাগড়াছড়ি, সিলেটসহ দেশের বিভিন্ন জেলায় বাণিজ্যিকভাবে চাষ হয়ে আসছে। আশা করা যায়, ভবিষ্যতে সাইট্রাস প্রজাতির এই সুইট লেবু বাংলাদেশে বাণিজ্যিকভাবে ব্যাপকহারে উৎপাদিত হবে। একইসাথে এই ফল চাষের মাধ্যমে আর্থিকভাবে লাভবান হবে আমাদের দেশের ফল চাষীগণ। সমৃদ্ধ হবে আমাদের বাংলাদেশ।

Introduction:

Sweet lemon is a new fruit in Bangladesh, cultivated in various nurseries within small areas for the last 2-3 years. It is a bushy variety. Its scientific name is Citrus limetta. The plant is approximately 2-2.5 feet tall and somewhat bushy. Currently, many people in Bangladesh are cultivating rooftop gardens. Sweet lemon is highly suitable for rooftop gardening.

 

Characteristics of Sweet Lemon:

1. Sweet lemon trees bear fruit throughout the year.
2. A single tree can bear approximately 200-250 fruits.
3. A two-year-old tree can yield about 5-6 kilograms of fruit.
4. The fruit-bearing capacity of the tree is very high.
5. As the tree matures, its fruit-bearing capacity increases. This means that as the tree grows older, it produces more fruit.

 

Description of Sweet Lemon:

It resembles a lemon in appearance but is sweet. In its raw state, it is green and turns yellow when ripe, similar to Malta. This lemon has a lower acid content.

 

Uses of Sweet Lemon:

Sweet lemon is most enjoyed when eaten raw. However, the inner part is also edible. The inner part is somewhat tangy, resembling Malta or kamranga. Additionally, it can serve as an alternative to soft drinks when extra food is consumed.

 

It plays a supportive role in enhancing skin beauty. This fruit is beneficial for diabetic patients. Regular consumption of the juice of this fruit helps in proper blood circulation in the body and enhances the body’s immune system. Eating this fruit helps in relieving nausea and aids in digestion. Furthermore, it also plays an effective role in weight loss.

 

Potential of Sweet Lemon in Bangladesh:

In Bangladesh, various indigenous and foreign fruits are becoming increasingly abundant day by day. Over time, commercial cultivation of citrus species such as Kamala, Bari Malta-1, Chuadanga, Nawabganj, Meherpur, Khagrachhari, and Sylhet is taking place in various districts of the country. It is hoped that in the future, this sweet lemon, a citrus species, will be commercially produced extensively in Bangladesh. Through the cultivation of this fruit, the fruit growers of our country will also profit economically. Bangladesh will prosper.
