আলফানসো আমের বৈশিষ্ট্য সমূহঃ

১। আলফানসো আম গাছের চারা খ্যাতি বিশ্বজোড়া।

২। এপ্রিলের মাঝামাঝি থেকে শুরু করে জুন মাসের শেষ পর্যন্ত আলফানসো আম পাওয়া যায়।

৩। এ জাতের আম গোলাকার ও ডিম্বাকৃতির মাঝামাঝি।

৪। পাকা আলফানসো আমের ভেতরে-বাইরে উভয় পাশ হলুদ-কমলা’র এক মিশ্র রঙে রঞ্জিত।

৫। অত্যন্ত মিষ্টি এই আমের কোন আঁশ নেই, এবং এর শাঁস মাখনের মত নরম।

৬। স্বাদের পাশাপাশি এ আমের আরেকটি প্রধান বৈশিষ্ট্য হলো এর চমৎকার সুগন্ধ।

৭। এমনকি পাকা আলফানসো আম এক মিনিট হাতে ধরে রাখার পর হাত থেকেও এর সুগন্ধ টের পাওয়া যায়।

৮। অতুলনীয় স্বাদ ও মন মাতানো গন্ধের কারণে আলফানসো কে বলা হয় আমের রাজা।

 

আলফানসো আমের পুষ্টি ও ওষুধিগুণঃ

১। স্বাদ ও সুগন্ধ ছাড়াও আলফানসো আমের পুষ্টিগুণ অনন্য।

২। রাতকানা ও অন্ধত্ব প্রতিরোধে আলফানসো অতুলনীয় এক ঔষধ হিসেবে প্রমাণিত হয়েছে।

৩। আলফানসো গাছের কচি পাতার রস দাঁতের ব্যথা নিরাময় করে।

৪। আলফানসোর শুকনো মুকুল আমাশয়, পাতলা পায়খানা ও মূত্রনালির জ্বালা-পোড়া উপশম করে।

 

আলফানসো আমের চাষাবাদঃ

মাত্র বছর দুয়েক আগেও বাংলাদেশে আলফানসোর বাণিজ্যিক চাষাবাদ একেবারেই ছিলো না। তবে বর্তমানে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ, ঠাকুরগাঁও ও কুষ্টিয়া জেলায় ক্ষুদ্র পরিসরে আলফানসো আমের চাষ করা হচ্ছে বলে খবরে জানা যায়। বাড়ির উঠোনে অথবা ছাদে বড় হাফ ড্রামে, পুকুরপাড়ে, বাণিজ্যিক ভাবে চাষের জন্য বিশেষ উপযোগী উচ্চ ফলনশীল জাত আলফানসো আম !

 

আলফানসো আমের জন্মকথাঃ

বাংলাদেশের জাতীয় গাছ হলো আম গাছ। সমগ্র পৃথিবীতে প্রায় কয়েক শতাধিক আমের জাত রয়েছে। এর মধ্যে শুধু ভারতেই সমগ্র বিশ্বের অর্ধেক আম উৎপাদিত হয়। আর ভারতে উৎপন্ন হওয়া সবচেয়ে উন্নত জাতের আম হল ‘আলফানসো’। তাই বলা হয় ফলের রাজা আম, আর আমের রাজা আলফানসো। পর্তুগিজ এক সামরিক বিশেষজ্ঞ আলফানসো ডি আল বাকারকি’র নামানুসারে আমের এই বিশেষ জাতের নাম রাখা হয় আলফানসো। কারণ ভারতবর্ষে প্রথম পর্তুগিজরাই আমের চারা থেকে কলম করার পদ্ধতি জনপ্রিয় করে তোলে। আলফানসো জাতের আম মূলত দু’টি ভিন্ন জাতের আমের চারার কলম থেকে উৎপাদন করা হয়েছে। ভারতের গোয়া রাজ্যে আলফানসোর জন্ম হলেও, বর্তমানে মহারাষ্ট্রের রত্নাগিরিতে সবচেয়ে সেরা জাতের আলফানসো জন্মে। এছাড়া মহারাষ্ট্রের পুনে, উড়িষ্যা রাজ্যের দেবগড়, গুজরাটের বলসাদ, কর্ণাটক রাজ্যের বেঙ্গালুরু, এবং পশ্চিমবঙ্গের মালদা ও মুর্শিদাবাদে বাণিজ্যিকভাবে উন্নত জাতের আলফানসো চাষ করা হয়।আলফানসো আম গাছের চারা

 

আলফানসো আমের বাণিজ্যিক মূল্যায়নঃ

ভারতে উৎপাদিত বেশিরভাগ আলফানসো আম বিদেশে রপ্তানি করা হয়। ১৯৮৯ সালে আমেরিকায় আলফানসো আম আমদানী নিষিদ্ধ করা হয়। কারণ আলফানসো আমের সাথে কৃষির জন্য ক্ষতিকর পোকামাকড় আমেরিকায় ছড়িয়ে পড়ার সম্ভাবনা তৈরি হয়েছিল। পরবর্তীতে ভারতীয় আম উৎপাদন ও রপ্তানি ব্যবস্থায় অভূতপূর্ব উন্নয়ন সাধিত হওয়ায় ২০০৭ সালে আমেরিকা আলফানসো আমদানির নিষেধাজ্ঞা তুলে নেয়। সাম্প্রতিক সময়ে ২০১৪ সালে ইউরোপীয় ইউনিয়নও একই ধরনের নিষেধাজ্ঞা আরোপ করে।

Characteristics of Alphonso Mango:

1. Alphonso mango is globally renowned.
2. Alphonso mangoes are available from mid-April to the end of June.
3. The mangoes of this variety are round to oval in shape.
4. Ripe Alphonso mangoes are tinged with a mixture of yellow-orange color both inside and outside.
5. This mango is extremely sweet with no fibers, and its flesh is as soft as butter.
6. Along with its taste, another prominent feature of this mango is its exquisite fragrance.
7. Even after holding a ripe Alphonso mango in hand for a minute, its aroma can still be felt on the hand.
8. Due to its incomparable taste and intoxicating aroma, Alphonso mango is call the king of mangoes.

 

Nutritional and Medicinal Properties of Alphonso Mango:

1. Besides its taste and aroma, Alphonso mango possesses unique nutritional qualities.
2. It has been prove to be an unparalleled remedy against night blindness and darkness adaptation.
3. The juice of the tender leaves of the Alphonso mango tree relieves toothache.

Cultivation of Alphonso Mango:

Just a couple of years ago, commercial cultivation of Alphonso mangoes in Bangladesh was virtually nonexistent. However, currently, it is being cultivate in small areas in Chapainawabganj, Thakurgaon, and Kushtia districts. It has  report that Alphonso mangoes are being grown in specific areas like rooftops, large drums, pond peripheries, and for commercial purposes. The Alphonso variety is highly productive and suitable for cultivation.

 

The Origin of Alphonso Mango:

The national tree of Bangladesh is the mango tree. There are almost hundreds of varieties of mangoes found worldwide. Among them, only half of the world’s mangoes are produce in India. And the most advance variety produce in India is the ‘Alphonso’. Hence it is said that the king of fruits is the mango, and the king of mangoes is the Alphonso. According to the name of a Portuguese military expert, Alphonso de Albuquerque, this special variety of mango was name Alphonso.

Commercial Evaluation of Alphonso Mango:

Most of the Alphonso mangoes produce in India are export abroad. In 1989, the import of Alphonso mangoes in the United States. This was because there was a possibility of the harmful mango leafhopper spreading to America along with Alphonso mangoes, which would have been detrimental to agriculture. Subsequently, due to unprecedent development in the production and export management of Indian mangoes, the ban on the import of Alphonso mangoes in the United States in 2007.
