ব্যানানা ম্যাংগো/কলা আম গাছের চারা

এটি একটি ব্যানানা ম্যাংগো/কলা আম গাছের চারা।  দূর থেকে দেখলে যে কেউ থ’ লেগে যাবেন। এ যে আম গাছে কলা! দেখতে অনেকটা সাগর কলার মত। আসলে কলা নয়, আম গাছে আমই ধরেছে। নাম তার কলা আম বা ব্যানানা ম্যাংগো। দেশের সর্বত্র এ আম পাওয়া না গেলেও ইতোমধ্যেই বেশ সাড়া ফেলেছে বেনানা ম্যাংগো। নিজের চোখে দেখেছেন হয়তো আপনিও।

 

থাইল্যান্ডভিত্তিক এই আম স্বাদে ও গন্ধে বেশ মনকাড়া। দেখতে কলার মতো লম্বা, পাকার সময় দুধে আলতা মেশানোর মতো হলুদ থেকে গোলাপি রঙের, আঠি চোকা পাতলা, রয়েছে প্রকৃত আমের স্বাদ। মিষ্টতা ১৯ /২০ টিএসএস এবং ৮৩% ই ভক্ষণযোগ্য। প্রচলিত জাতের চেয়ে এ আমে ফলন দ্বিগুণের বেশি।

 

২০১০ সালে থাইল্যান্ড থেকে এই জাতের ডগা নিয়ে এসে প্রথমে গ্রাফটিং করা হয়। পরে চাঁপাইনবাবগঞ্জ হর্টিকালচার সেন্টারে দেশের আবহাওয়ার সঙ্গে খাপ খাওয়ানোর জন্য কাজ শুরু হয়। ২০১২ সালে আসে প্রথম সাফল্য। এরপর প্রতিবছর নিয়মিত আম আসায় ২০১৫ সালে বাণিজ্যিকভাবে কৃষকের মাঝে এই আমের সম্প্রসারণ কাজ শুরু হয়।

 

ব্যানানা ম্যাংগো বা কলা আম স্বাদে, গন্ধে যেমন অনন্য, তেমনি এর চাষের পদ্ধতিও সহজ। সাধারণত জুন মাসের পর থেকে দেশের বাজারে ভালো জাতের আমের প্রাপ্যতা যখন কমে আসে, তখন বাজারে আসে এই আম।

Banana Mango Sapling

This is a Banana Mango/Plantain Mango Sapling. From a distance, anyone would mistake it for a banana! It somewhat resembles a sea banana. But actually, it’s not a banana, it’s a mango tree that bears mangoes. Its name is Plantain Mango or Banana Mango. Although not found everywhere in the country, the Plantain Mango has already gained popularity. Perhaps you’ve seen it with your own eyes.”

 

This mango, originating from Thailand, has a distinctive taste and fragrance. It appears long like a banana and during ripening, it transitions from yellow to pinkish-red, with thin, glossy skin, retaining the natural flavor of mango. Its sweetness is rated at 19/20 Brix and it is 83% edible. Compared to common varieties, it yields twice as much.

 

In 2010, grafting of this variety was initiated after importing it from Thailand. Subsequently, work began at Chapainawabganj Horticulture Center to acclimatize it with the country’s weather conditions for cultivation. The first successful harvest was in 2012. Since then, regular mango harvests have started commercially among farmers from 2015.

 

The cultivation of Banana Mango or Plantain Mango is as easy as its unique taste and fragrance. Typically, after June, when the availability of good quality mangoes decreases in the local market, these mangoes start appearing in the market.
