চালতা পরিচিতিঃ

অপ্রচলিত ফল হিসেবে চালতাকে অবজ্ঞা করলেও বর্তমানে এর স্বাদ ও ঔষধিগুণে আকৃষ্ট হচ্ছেন দেশের মানুষ। চালতা চাষে বাড়তি পরিশ্রম ও খরচ কোনোটাই লাগে না। একবার শুধু কষ্ট করে লাগাতে পারলেই প্রত্যেক মৌসুমে নিয়মিত ফল পাওয়া যায়। প্রচলিত পেয়ারা, আমড়া, জামরুলসহ অন্যান্য ফলের তুলনায় অপ্রচলিত ফল চালতার ফলন বেশি। কোনো রোগ-বালাই নেই, ফলটি পাখিতে নষ্ট করে না। তাছাড়া চালতা চাষে পরিচর্যা ও সার লাগে না। গ্রামাঞ্চলের মানুষ বর্তমানে চালতা বিক্রি করে আর্থিকভাবে লাভবান হচ্ছেন। ভেজা স্যাঁতসেতে জায়গায় চালতা গাছ ভাল জন্মে। দেশের প্রায় সব অঞ্চলেই চালতা গাছ দেখতে পাওয়া যায়।

চাষ প্রণালীঃ

চালতার বীজ ও চারা রোপণ করলেই গাছ হয়। প্রতিটি চালতার মধ্যে ২০টির মত প্রকোষ্ঠ এবং এই প্রকোষ্ঠে ৪ থেকে ৫টি বীজ থাকে। চালতা গাছে মে-জুন মাসে সাদা রঙের সুগন্ধযুক্ত ফুল ফুটে এবং শীতের শুরুতে ফল পাকতে শুরু করে। ডিসেম্বর মাসে ফল থেকে বীজ ছাড়িয়ে শুকিয়ে নিয়ে ফেব্রয়ারি-মার্চ মাসে রোপণ করতে হয়।

 

সম্ভাবনা ও আর্থিক মূল্যায়নঃ

জংলি ফল চালতা বিক্রি করে বাড়তি উপার্জন এবং ঔষধিগুণের কারণে অনেকেই বসত বাড়িতে অন্যান্য ফলের সাথে এর চাষ শুরু করেছেন। চালতা মানবদেহের জন্য অত্যন্ত উপকারী ফল। এ থেকে তৈরি আচার, চাটনি, জেলি শরবত খেতে খুবই সুস্বাদু। চালতার রস চিনি ও জলর সাথে মিশিয়ে পান করলে সর্দি ও জ্বর ভাল হয়। শক্তিবর্ধক ওষুধ হিসাবেও ব্যবহৃত হয় চালতার রস। রক্ত আমাশয়ের জন্য পাকা চালতা খেলে উপকার পাওয়া যায়।

Introduction to Elephant Apple:

Although elephant apple was once disregarded as an uncommon fruit, its taste and medicinal properties are currently attracting the attention of the people of the country. Growing elephant apple requires minimal effort and expense. Once planted, regular fruit can be obtained every season with minimal effort. Compared to popular fruits like guava, mango, and jamrul, elephant apple has higher productivity. It is free from diseases and is not destroyed by birds. Additionally, elephant apple cultivation requires minimal care and fertilizer. Rural people are currently benefiting economically from selling elephant apples. Elephant apple trees thrive well in open areas. They can be found almost everywhere in the country.

 

Cultivation Method:

Planting the seeds and seedlings of elephant apples will result in tree growth. Each elephant apple contains about 20 seeds, and within each seed, there are about 4 to 5 embryos. Elephant apple trees bear fragrant white flowers in May-June, and fruiting begins in the beginning of winter. Seeds are separated from the fruit in December and are dried and then planted in February-March.

 

Potential and Economic Evaluation:

Wild plum is sold for extra income and due to its medicinal properties, many people have started growing it alongside other fruits in their homes. Elephant apple is extremely beneficial for human health. It is used to make delicious pickles, chutneys, and juices. Mixing elephant apple juice with sugar or water helps to relieve colds and fevers. The juice of elephant apple is also used as a tonic. Eating ripe elephant apples is good for the stomach.
